On March 23, 2011, the product known as U-Prosta Natural Support for Prostate Health was recalled after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discovered that the product actually contained the prescription drug terazosin. Terazosin is a prescription medication that is used to treat enlarged prostate. Consumers that unknowingly ingest terazosin are at risk of experiencing significant complications, including hypotension and loss of consciousness.

What’s the problem?
The inclusion of terazosin in U-Prosta poses a serious threat to consumers. Terazosin can cause blood pressure to drop to dangerously low levels and/or cause theloss of consciousness. The unexpected loss of consciousness can result in tragic consequences.
Additionally, the undisclosed inclusion of a prescription medication in a product that claims to be a dietary supplement is a fraudulent business practice that financially injures consumers who purchase the product. Consumers buy dietary supplements because they believe the products are dietary supplements (as opposed to prescription drugs) and because they believe the products are effective. Yet, many manufacturers of purportedly effective dietary supplements include undisclosed prescription drugs in these products so that the otherwise ineffective products appear to be effective. As a result of this outright fraud, consumers spend their hard-earned money on what they believe to be an effective dietary supplement only to receive an often dangerous prescription drug.
