Chantix®, a smoking cessation product, has been linked to an increased risk of suicide and suicidal thoughts, as well as aggressive and erratic behaviors.
If you or a loved one has been injured by Chantix, you should contact our lawyers immediately for a free confidential case evaluation. You may be entitled to compensation for your injuries and we can help.
How does Chantix work?
Chantix works primarily by blocking nicotine from stimulating brain receptors, which makes smoking less appealing. It also stimulates the release of small quantities of dopamine to help decrease the desire for nicotine because the body is already getting dopamine. Unfortunately, it did not take long before reports began linking Chantix to a number of extremely serious side effects.
What side effects have been linked to Chantix?
Chantix has been linked to numerous extremely serious psychological side effects. It has the potential to radically change behavior and cause violent mood swings, provoke suicidal thoughts, and erratic behavior. Chantix may also hinder your ability to work, operate a vehicle, and even communicate effectively. Side effects may vary greatly from person to person.
On May 31, 2011, Pfizer once again become the target of intense public scrutiny after issues regarding serious and potentially life-threatning psychological side effects of Chantix continue to plague those who only wish to stop smoking. As a result, French Health Minister Xavier Bertrand announced that Chantix shall no longer be subsidized in the country. His reasoning behind the radical move is supported by overwhelming evidence that continues to add weight to the long suspected link between Chantix and concerns over violent and suicidal behavior.
How are Chantix claims evaluated?
The potential for a Chantix lawsuit depends on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) whether the individual:
- Committed or attempted suicide
- Suffered severe physical injury as a result of sudden abnormal behavior
- Has been diagnosed with new on-set Diabetes
- Has been diagnosed with Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) or Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN)
- Suffered severe physical injury or death from an accident or fall caused by seizures, black-outs, vision disturbances, or other sudden problems
