Torrance Teacher Pleads Not Guilty to 41 Molestation and Lewd Act Charges

A Torrance high school teacher and wrestling coach has pleaded not guilty to over 40 counts of lewd acts and child molestation. The accused, Thomas Joseph Snider, 47, was arrested last January when several students came forward to report the abuse, which allegedly took place from September 2013 to February 2015.

According to the latest report from NBC Los Angeles, there are 25 victims connected to the period of alleged abuse, ranging from 13 to 16 in age. Snider faces 33 felony counts of lewd acts of a child and an additional eight misdemeanor counts of child molestation. It is unclear at this time whether or not the teen victims were students of Snider.

Last week, at a hearing attended by his family, Snider pleaded not guilty to all 41 allegations against him. His defense counsel also brought up concerns for Snider’s health, citing his “lifelong battle” with diabetes. A reduced bond and an emergency medical release were both requested. The judge denied both.

Trial Scheduled for Later This Month

Snider’s next hearing will be April 20. It is unclear what role the alleged victims will play in this trial, but cases such as these, in which there are potentially many young victims and many families affected, it is likely to be an emotional proceeding. We will continue to monitor this major case and the bravery the alleged victims continue to show in making sure that justice is served.
