On Monday, May 2nd, a special education teacher’s aide allegedly assaulted several staff members and students at Van Nuys Elementary School in the San Fernando Valley. It was reported that the female teacher’s aide, 56-year-old Linda Hovanec, began acting erratically and throwing chairs shortly after school convened one morning. Last week, Hovanec was arraigned on battery charges related to the incident.
According to prosecutors and officials, Hovanec started a disturbance in the classroom, began shoving tables and throwing chairs, and injured two students. School was shut down the morning following the incident. Hovanec is now facing three counts of misdemeanor battery and one count of child endangerment.
Court documents show that Hovanec pled not guilty last Wednesday and her bail was set at $30,000. The Los Angeles Unified School District has stated that Hovanec will not return to Van Nuys Elementary and that administrators are focused on protecting all students throughout the district.
